Hey guys let's save a city in Chile.

Hi friends (it's hard for me to imagine anyone who's not my friend reading this blog),

Some people I kind of know are, right now, making a big difference in Chile. They're going to the cities hit worst by the earthquake, helping key local NGOs restore Internet connectivity, helping locals let their loved ones know they're okay, and offering basic living supplies. I've written some blog posts about them here and here.

Here's the thing: they're doing this without much budget, and how many people they can help depends entirely on how much money they can raise. For each $1000 they raise, they can visit one more city. That's not some made-up fundraising number; that's a concrete fact. When they run out of money, they're done.

I just donated $50. Would you consider donating $50? I think I know at least 19 people who could afford it. If we raised $1000, we'd know that we made a big difference for an actual, real-life city. And that would be pretty cool.

Consider it. And let me know if you donate, we can keep a tally here.

Love,
Elliot

Hey so yeah.

I created this other blog for my trip to India, and I think I'm going to keep using it. I'm reposting things there that I write for work if I think they're interesting enough, and I'm also going to start writing about poetry and music and whatnot there.

Annoyingly, Blogger is going to stop supporting the idiolexicon blog at the end of March; we're in the middle of redesigning Idiolexicon, so it's up in the air how we'll deal with that.

Maybe at some point I'll figure out how to automatically repost things from Posterous on Livejournal, but it's just as likely that I'll just let my Livejournal fade gradually into latency.

Call for entries: Black Lab

This sounds kind of cool.

The Lab is seeking visual art, literary, and performance submissions for a group exhibition uncovering the shadow side of art.

Of particular interest are proposals that investigate negative astral correspondences in art history. We are looking for two- and three-dimensional pieces, video, installation, interactive, and experimental works involving anarchic local counterculture rituals, nihilist esoterica, and a generally arcane aesthetic.

Submissions must be received by June 1, 2010.

I keep meaning to tell you guys that I'm going to India in a few weeks.

(This picture will be funny to somewhere between 0 and 2 people on my friends list.)

Healthcare

Yes. This is the point that needs to be made as loudly and clearly as possible. When the healthcare industry releases these little reports about how expensive the Baucus plan will be for Americans, they're making a promise, and it's a promise you can be sure they're going to keep. They will raise their prices. That's why healthcare reform without a public option is not healthcare reform.
